Traditional ecological knowledge (ʻike ʻāina) shaped the people and landscape of the Hawaiian islands. Hawaiian ecology was understood through deep observation and experience of the natural environment – learning and developing an intimate relationship with the many personalities, forms, and character of the land, and naming these features as Hawaiians do for their own children [1]. This relationship is also mirrored between humans and games, in which games helped shape human perspectives of the world, relationships, and contemplation [2,3]. In forging the bonds between ʻike ʻāina and game playing (pāʻani), our platform seeks to provide alternative ways for learning complex, cultural and ecological concepts and help to inspire the connection (pilina) between ʻāina and people (kānaka).
